Daily Thoughts: Gaining Mental Toughness

By Sassysamey - 10:35 AM

I overheard a conversation that made me think about how differently my mind set is compared to those around me. It went something like this:

“Why did you quit your last job?”
“I didn’t like my boss because he expected more out of me than any of his other employees, but I wasn’t getting paid enough so I quit.”

It took me by surprise actually. Just let that sink in a little bit. “He expected more out of me than any of his employees.”  I do understand that money is a resource that we all need. But what really got me was the fact that he said “he expected more out of me”.

Years ago I would have responded something along the lines of “what really? How dare he”. But today my first thought was “WOW! Really? So what your saying is that he believed in you more than any of his other employees and you quit.”

I’m a firm believer that the people who give us the most trouble, stress and sleepless nights are the ones that help build your character and mental strength. It took me awhile to figure this out. After years and years of feeling like the world was against me, I had an epiphany. The universe is actually working with me to overcome these obstacles and hurdles. Think about it, those troublesome people make you think outside the box, they push and they redirect your train of thought. After you’ve overcome those obstacles your mental toughness is stronger.

So instead of hating your boss for pushing you to do something you’ve never done, or are pushing you to do more, embrace it because BooBoo they are helping you build your mental strength… if you’re up to it J

“People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built”- Eleanor Roosevelt

So go out there and be awesome! Take charge and don’t be afraid to push yourself constantly everyday!
